This project started from brands research and I researched Ercol and Ikea. Ercol produces high-end, handmade, hardwood furniture, but Ikea produces affordable, flatpack furniture. Both companies manufacture furniture but they are completely different.
It encouraged me to think how to make high-quality, hard wood furniture more affordable, so that more people can enjoy furniture made out of real material of hard wood.
The idea was simple, making a flat pack system of furniture which can be assembled by hands without tools and glues. Hypothetically, it could massively reduce the price of the furniture.
The reason I chose to design a stool is that, if the system works to a stool, it means it can also easily develop to ranges of furniture such as chairs, tables and even beds.
